On February 18, Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Secretary-General Zhang Jun met with Vaughn Barber, Chair of China-Australia Chamber of Commerce (AustCham China), at the BFA Secretariat.
Zhang Jun expressed his appreciation to the Australian business community for its long-term attention and support for the development of the forum. He stated that Australia, China and other Asia-Pacific nations jointly initiated the establishment of the Boao Forum for Asia at the beginning of the century, a decision that has proven to be correct over time. For more than two decades, the BFA has evolved into a high-level platform for dialogue and exchange among government leaders, the business sector and academia, playing a positive role in promoting regional cooperation and economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region. In the context of a world with intertwined changes and disorder and economic globalization facing headwinds, the BFA remains committed to its focus in Asia, promoting regional cooperation, while also looking outward to closely align with the global agenda, contributing Asian wisdom and seeking multilateral solutions to major global challenges such as climate change, energy transition, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
Zhang Jun pointed out that the overall development environment in the Asia-Pacific region is currently stable, with regional cooperation flourishing, and it has become a driving force for global economic growth and a hub for global technology and innovation against the backdrop of sluggish global economic recovery. As promoters and beneficiaries of economic globalization and regional economic integration, Asia-Pacific countries have every reason to uphold the direction of multilateralism and globalization, and to commit to investing in and building a shared future for the Asia-Pacific region. He welcomed representatives from the Australian business community to actively participate in the BFA Annual Conference 2025, contributing their insights and wisdom for the development of Asia and the world.
Vaughn Barber commended the BFA for its significant contributions to promoting dialogue and cooperation among Asia-Pacific countries, noting that AustCham China shares a high degree of alignment with BFA in terms of enhancing mutual trust and conveying confidence, and it is willing to deepen cooperation with BFA and encourage Australian business representatives to actively participate in the BFA annual conference and related activities.
